Xodol, made by Accentia Biopharmaceuticals, Inc., is essentially a new formulation of Vicodin, with a lower amount of APAP. This allows patients to take more of the medication in a single day, since APAP use should be limited to 4000 mg/day.
The new formulation, which contains 10 mg of hydrocodone and 300 mg of APAP per tablet, (The most common form of Vicodin is 5/500.), will help patients to take more advantage of the pain relieving properties of the hydrocodone, without having to worry about APAP intake.

Can Xodol cause depression if one is taking 4 to 5 tablets a day?
According to the drug’s web site (www.xodol.com) and ePocrates, depression is not listed as a side effect of acetaminophen/hydrocodone combinations (including xodol, Vicodin, and Lortab). However, they may cause an “additive CNS depression” when used in combination with alcohol and other CNS depressants.
Please remember that I am not a pharmacist (just a technician so far), and therefore cannot provide any clinical advice. If you are experiencing depression in connection with Xodol, you should consult with your doctor or pharmacist.
