Three health plans and two medication vendors in Massachusetts are engaging in what’s called the eRx Collaborative, a plan to provide more than 3,400 PDA’s bundled with prescription software. So far doctors in the plan have transmitted more than three million prescriptions with the system.
The full numbers aren’t in yet, but so far, the software has prevented 4,000 drug interactions and contraindications, also reducing the number of prescriptions written for non-formulary drugs (a big plus for pharmacists who often get yelled at by patients when they have to pay $50 for an acne medication.)
I can’t wait for the days when this is mandatory, can you?
